Aberlour A’Bunadh Alba | Banoffee

Before the first sip of our delivered pre-release sample some months ago, we were confident that #Aberlour had created something special!  But first, lets digress into our initial introduction of the new #A’bunadh Alba as marketing & branding has always been substantial in our #whisky journey. With such success from the traditional sherry bombardier A’bunadh expressions, why implement a secondary when, potentially, risking loyalty from those dark #scotch traditionalists who swear by what is old is always better?…  Or association alone within the A’bunadh family branding may dilute the authentic supremacy of the known batch releases… regardless, with such worldly popularity of our beloved juice creates an obvious supply and demand bottleneck.. not simply for production and resource but infinite hunger for the variety in taste!

The introduction of this new style,  ‘the original’  Alba.. or ‘Scot’, presents a refreshing experience to ex #bourbon based #scotch.  Potentially a play on words in regards to the nectars wood source, Quercus alba or #American oak, this oddly subtle tropical and orchard fruit driven dram offers a lasting oil and spice on the tongue while an overall sweet creamy ting ting grows to the finish!  In one sense, this a complete departure from the #distillery portfolio.. but more importantly, is consistent with the brands ethos! A truly beautiful single malt with plenty of quality and flavor, but even more exciting is the fact it will continue to be available to the masses as it has become part of the permanent collection!

Our first trip back to the lovely #Oliboli in Tustin, #California for another absolute belter of a #donut.  The banana cream pie #Banoffee could be more of a pie than an actual #doughnut!!.. but as you may see in our deconstructed stop motion video, this does indeed start with their infamous fried hoop!  Banana toffee glaze, fresh banana pudding, banana slices, toffee sauce, salty banana whipped cream and streusel crumbs…. whoa. Inspired by the Banoffee Pie found at The Hungry Monk circa 1971 Sussex England, this is a definite all-time winner so far for us!
